So. This is really short notice but I will be supporting the BOOtiful Cornelia (playing keys and singing backing vocals) this Saturday at The Nest in Dalston, London. If you happen to be sauntering about at 9pm why not pop in and indulge your ear drums?
INFO:
The Nest, 36-44 Stoke Newington Road, London, N16 7XJ, United Kingdom
Here's what Cornelia wants you to know: "Oxygen is my friend. Without her, you could say I just wouldn't be. My song... our song, that you hear - it's a relationship. Our conversation. The air and my chest meeting at some half way point in my throat."
Yet another songstress that I could talk about until my throat dries up. She's Swedish by the way. And I think she may have contributed to my addiction to Swedish Alt-Pop. I urge you to follow her blog, follow (and buy) her music, follow her record label, follow HER - although I don't think she's fond of stalkers:
I often get lonely making sounds, in my little room, whilst conjuring big dreams, in my little head. But I'm lucky enough to know a few people who get me out of my creative-person's-narcissistic-trance. These people create music that gets me soooooo excited - no sexy-time connotation intended - that I get all ADHD-like, and fail to concentrate on anything other than the new song taking form in my little head. In other words, they inspire and encourage me to shamelessly rant and philosophize through my music. So I've decided to dedicate my last posts of the year to my amazing music-making friends.
She looks like a fun-time girl, right? I could probably write an essay about her, but I don't want to. BUT, I'm advertising blogging about her, and in my world, that means I really, really, adore her. How About you check out her credentials? (See what I did there?)
I've been gone for a minute, now I'm back at the jump off on the blogger space (REMIX!).
During my habitual absence, a lot has happened in the world, in London...in my mind. I could attempt to discuss them, but...nah, I don't want to. What I do want to do is say thank you to both Hippy Daisies Diary and Black And Killing It for featuring a photo of HowAboutBeth and myself on their blogs. In case you can't be bothered to click on the links, here's the photo:
I know you are probably intrigued as to where this was taken? Well, HowAboutBeth and I were jammin' in my study, discussing Archimedes' principle, whilst sippin' on gin 'n' juice Earl Grey. Both aware of how dashing we looked in our attire, I called my good friend, and renowned photographer Julia Kennedy to my premises to capture the moment. True story!
Forgive me for my lack of bloggage (urban colloquialism, for "blogging"). I just had to post this picture. My only comment/question is: "I know I''m wacky but...WTF?!"
Hello to my one follower! Gosh, that should be a painful statement to make but I'm not sweatin' (excuse the Americanism). One day every man, woman, and child will read my blog, and I'll be more powerful then that Murdoch chap! *GROWLS* One day...one day. Speaking of the media, I'm going to share a very amazing story with you (one follower):
On a sunny afternoon I was heading home on the Underground, when I noticed a pudgy middle-aged white man opposite me skimming a magazine. Being highly inquisitive, I tried to get a glimpse at the images he was admiring. He closed the magazine, before I could get a proper look at one. But I glimpsed the front cover and...behold...he was reading...BLACK BOOTY magazine. (Yes - a pornographic magazine showcasing booties that are black!) He wrapped his hands around the mag and looked up, I avoided eye-contact as much as Londoners avoided SARS, and Swine Flu, and Bird Flu, and so forth. I cringed for a good few minutes, until he got off the train, before me - luckily. I couldn't allow myself to walk away from him, knowing that he could take delight in my derriere.
P.S, Public transport is no place for an individual to advertise their sexual delights.
I needed to hear something like this today. I found it on the great Afro-Punk site. It's given me a Saturday smile and the optimistic lyric: "My soul is never gonna steer me wrong." ENJOY!
This is kind of old now. But I love it long time. It makes me giddy to be from this tiny isle. So simple, so creative, so great. This is art. Old skool references, Gameboy-esque beat. How many debut music videos are this great? I remember when I used to anticipate the next Hype Williams' directed music video. No matter the artist, he'd give you something fresh. Those were definitely the days. The only person I can count on for amazing videos is Missy Elliott. That's not enough for me. Whoops...I digress. Here's what I started talking about, enjoy:
I just got robbed. I was sitting on the bus, having a conversation with a friend on my iPhone, when a guy grabbed it from my grasp. I chased him off the bus for a good 200 meters until he climbed over a high gate. And even after I'd lost him, I searched the nearby roads, asking passersby if they'd seen him.
Initially, I became teary-eyed, in shock of someone thinking that they had a right to take what was mine, what I'd worked and paid for. I hate the act of theft. If you're stealing a piece of bread because you're hungry - fair enough, I could excuse that. But this guy was not hungry, he was probably going to sell it on for a few hundred. Also....he was Black, and this disappointed me, not to say that if he was Caucasian or Asian I'd be happier, I just figure that he's entertaining statistics and stereotypes. Anyway, I called the police (my first time) and my network provider. The phone has now been blacklisted/blocked, and I have insurance, so I'll get a new one in a few days.
So, even though I didn't catch him, I felt awesome for attempting to. At the time I knew it was dangerous. I fought off thoughts of him seriously harming me with his fists or a weapon, or stealing the rest of my possessions. Frankly, I didn't care, I couldn't let it be that easy for him, I wasn't going to let him skip down the road grinning. I even contemplated picking up something to threaten him with, but there was nothing around. This makes me wonder if I could have pursued a career in law enforcement:
(I'm no Beyonce, but I couldn't find a more attractive policewoman picture online.) Maybe...maybe. It's surprising what thoughts certain events can provoke. Two hours later, and I'm really happy, really happy. He didn't take my sunshine. For goodness sake, it was just a phone. A microchip and a lump of plastic. I never want to cry over a man made material again! Little Dragon comes to mind:
I have a goal list. I can't remember most of them off the top of my head, but that doesn't matter - I'm going to achieve them. I'd like to share one of the first goals I recorded. It was instigated by a ridiculous Simpsons episode (sorry, I can't embed the video). Principal Skinnner cooks a meal for Superintendent Chalmers, and his kitchen catches on fire; Chalmers asks him what's going on in the kitchen, to which Skinner states that this is happening:
Don't look at the hut, look past it. The "colourful" sky is an effect known as an aurora borealis, or northern lights. As soon as I heard the term, I used trusty ol' Google to find out what it was. I'm not going to explain the science behind it, Wikipedia can help you out. It's beautiful, no?
I imagine it to be the type of experience that would render me speechless.
